Mass Wisteria | Live music: indie alt-pop

  • The Queens Theatre 21 - 31 Playhouse Lane Adelaide, SA, 5000 Australia (map)

Mass Wisteria:
Hailing from Adelaide, Mass Wisteria is the city’s newest indie alt-pop outfit, bringing together the creative energy of seasoned musicians from local acts The Keepsakes, Hummel, 20th Century Graduates, and Thomas Pynchon. With a sound that blends melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and a touch of nostalgia, Mass Wisteria captures the essence of indie authenticity while carving a new sonic path. United by their passion for storytelling and lush, dynamic arrangements, the band promises to resonate with listeners looking for something both familiar and refreshingly original.

The Flying Squad:
In October 2023, 'Confessions of a Street Clown' marked the triumphant return of a band emerging from nearly a decade-long hiatus. The Flying Squad has swiftly established itself as one of the hardest-working bands around, releasing six singles and captivating audiences at packed venues and festival stages since their comeback. It’s thrilling to consider what the future holds for this band—one that embraces its diligent spirit and takes pride in delivering powerful live performances at a time when live music has never been more essential.

Boasting a dynamic sound infused with the sharp wit of chief songwriter Tris Beaumont, The Flying Squad stirs a wide range of emotions through their music. Some songs will make you laugh, while others may bring a tear to your eye, with certain tracks powerful enough to elicit both reactions. Their narratives—capable of making even Bukowski wince—are woven into an upbeat, hip-shaking, twangy, and thumping fusion of country, blues, and rockabilly.

The Flying Squad's latest release, Rinse, Wash, Repeat, epitomises these sentiments and serves as the cherry on top for a band that has squeezed every drop out of 2024. You can’t help but feel that things are just getting started.

The Trafalgars:
The Trafalgars are a rock’n roll / powerpop band with a strong 60s / 70s musical influence. The band formed in 2002 in the Barossa Valley, South Australia, where the boys grew up and attended school together. Sharing a love of bands such as Even, You Am I, The Kinks, The Who, Supergrass, Sloan, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Small Faces, Tom Petty, Teenage Fanclub and a plethora of rock and roll-based acts, the boys began practicing in the pool room, assembling a swag of catchy tunes. The band played a heap of local and interstate gigs around this time, garnering Triple J radio airplay and playing shows and touring with fantastic acts including Jet, Grinspoon, Dave Graney, Even, Dallas Crane, Draught Dodgers, Icecream Hands, Dave McCormack & the Polaroids, The Stems, Lovetones, End of Fashion, Celibate Rifles, Intercooler, The Anyones, The Vasco Era, The Exploders & Jackson, Firebird. Previous releases Thank You Captain & Sit with Me recorded 2004 and 2005 recorded with, Craig Harnath at Hot House Studio, Melbourne.
