Fire in the Stables portion of the venue by Cash Buck

On Saturday 12 April 2025, the Stables section of our venue was impacted by a fire that started at the rear of the Stables on Young St. We’re incredibly relieved to report that no one was injured, and we’ve already begun the process of addressing the situation with care and urgency.

The main theatre remains completely unaffected, and thanks to this, our operations continue with minimal disruption. Events originally planned for the Stables are being relocated to the main theatre, and we’re committed to ensuring the same high-quality experience for all our audiences and artists.

Work is already underway behind the scenes to plan the restoration of the Stables, and we’re approaching this process with care and optimism for what’s ahead.

For those with upcoming bookings, we’ll be in touch directly to discuss any necessary updates. We appreciate your patience and ongoing support during this time.

Any future updates will be posted here in the News section. In the meantime, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Theatre mode package available from August – Nov 2024 by Nisa Zakuan

This year we will set-up a theatre package for a duration of 3-4 mths to accommodate 360 pax, tiered seating theatre style set-up. The package will be a cost-effective alternative that minimises the need for individual hirers to bring in everything to a bare walls venue. The audio/lighting/stage set-up can be adjusted as per each individual hirers requirements at minimal cost.

New doors to be completed by end May 2024 by Nisa Zakuan

With the installation of the new timber floor, there will also be the addition of 2 new doors.

A new door will be installed in the existing opening between the foyer/lounge (aka Stables) and the main theatre (aka Chambers) significantly reducing, if not eliminating noise bleed between the 2 spaces.

The other door will be and emergency egress in the southeast corner that exits out into the rear courtyard between the Queens and Uno Apartments. This is a great addition as often in theatre mode, dressing rooms are allocated in this corner, leading cast/crew directly out to the enclosed courtyard next to the breakaway/ops room and cast/crew toilets.

New timber floor to be installed by end May 2024 by Nisa Zakuan

April – May this year will see a permanent, timber panelled floor being constructed in the main theatre. The black, theatre flooring will be levelled from the south end (Waymouth St entrance) with stairs and ramp access at the north end (Playhouse Lane) to counter the existing sloping floor. The floor construction has taken into consideration the load bearing requirements to allow for staging weights, crowd capacity and scissor lift access.

Not only will it look fantastic, but the level floor will greatly save on labour costs for installing staging and other works.
